Bear with me, this kind of meanders…

I have been accused of being insensitive.

It is probably true.  I am an asshole.  There is really no denying that fact.

More so, I am a realist, I am blunt.  I am someone who doesn’t just observe things that happen as the news media floods us with information.

Horrific events are often blown out by the media.  There is coverage from the moment it happens to a year or more after.  The internet picks up the pace and everywhere you look there is a new picture being made or a new “like this…” and “share this…” being posted to social media.  People are suddenly on edge and ready to take on the world in the name of those most affected.  This is noble, but most often only empty words.

Many people have criticized me for my outspoken opinions and “inappropriate” comments toward “current events”

Allow me a rebuttal.

The media today functions more off of ratings and what will get than what is newsworthy and completely factual.  If something is covered, chances are their data gatherers have found it to be “of interest”; for this reason, stories play that normally are either irrelevant or of little value.  (I believe the unhealthy obsession with pop-culture is a good example in this instance).  My comments about events generally take a cynical approach to this news.  Take, for example, my earlier comments regarding Sandy Hook.  The media is just as at fault as the current administration is for using them as pawns.  Think about it for a moment, aside from the mention that the families were spectators at The Boston Marathon, when is the last time they have been mentioned as a whole story?  The focus is no longer on the Sandy Hook tragedy, it is not centered on the psychopath who killed and injured with his bombs.

America has found a new heartstring to pull.

As with any of my other “rants”, don’t take this as me being insensitive.  I believe that these crimes are atrocious.  I believe the pain the families went through is unimaginable.  I do believe also, the media and politicians know an opportunity when they see it and have moved on to the next sensational headline.

The families involved with Sandy Hook were paraded around to events and catered to in order to voice their “support” for various programs and legislations regarding guns.  I said before and still believe these people are just as clueless as the legislators that are garnering their “support”.  How are those people suddenly experts on gun control when they were more than likely sitting in their office, playing on Facebook, processing data, or performing whatever task they do for a living?  Their children were the first and foremost victims and have been (mostly, and thankfully) left out of the media’s light.  But how do you expect me to believe a strong argument can be presented by someone who merely was a third party?  Aside from that, the argument has predominantly been against “weapons of war” and “evil” assault style weapons.  The very model that is being attacked, the AR-15, had nothing to do with the Sandy Hook tragedy.  It was in his trunk!  Also, background checks, while I support them, will not keep weapons like that out of the hands of psychopaths.  Neither Adam Lanza, nor the 2 psychos in Boston had legally owned firearms.  So tell me, how will legislation prevent events like this from happening again?  Bad people with bad intentions do bad things and do not abide by the laws set forth anyway.  That is precisely why we call them CRIMINALS.

How much wool do we need over our eyes before we realize it is there?  How far do we allow the media and government to go before we wake up to their deceiving games?  Since Sandy Hook and Boston (yes, already) there has been legislation passed while we were “sleeping”, with little or no media coverage, which will take rights away from citizens; all in the name of “safety”.  We haven’t heard any discussion (or minimal) about fixing the government’s excessive expenditures and loopholes to continue to line the pockets of the super-wealthy while leaving lint in ours.  We gave seen the same gruesome images of victims from Boston and have heard the same speeches from leaders.  Liberty no longer has the same meaning as it did 237 years ago or else we wouldn’t be so willing to accept what is happening to this great country.

We accept the passing of bills to limit our freedoms as something that needs to be done to protect our own safety; yet don’t question the true reasons behind them.  We sensationalize the horrible events that happen and we achieve the very goal of the people that perform these heinous acts, terror.  As we dwell on the horrible crimes committed, the administration uses its own sleight of hand to push their agenda behind the curtain and further nullify what our forefathers strove so hard to establish.  There is no longer a sense of patriotism as it once was, we have accepted that we are a welfare state and that there is nothing we can do because that’s the way things are.

We can change the way we are slowly falling.  We can make a difference.  Elect more “home-grown” people to positions that make a difference.  Choose to not accept the big name just because they claim they are going to make a difference.  Turn off the biased news channels and don’t give them the air time they so desire.  The next time an election comes around, vote off of your normal political party, don’t vote a major party at all.  Change is slow and small but with a little effort from everyone we can prevent this great country from falling apart and give our children a country they will actually be proud of.
